What You Need To Know About Motion Pictures

Motion pictures or movies have grown to be the most popular and widespread form of entertainment in the world. People who have never seen a play on the stage, who have never attended a concert or even an opera, even people who have never read a book have seen and enjoyed the movies. Yet, during the early times, the photography was poor, the people in the film moved in fast and jerky way, and the pictures flickered. At first, movies were very short, and the stories they told were very simple.

A suburb of Los Angeles, California, named Hollywood, started to become the centre of the film industry. The reason Hollywood later on was considered a natural place for making movies was that the sun shines there nearly everyday. In the early years, most movies were made outdoors with natural light and not in indoors with artificial lights. Movies had found voice and talk became a part of the film in the 1920s. Since the development of the talkies, there have been many other advances in film making and showing.

However, as time goes by Hollywood is no longer the only place where a large number of movies are being made. In England, such procedures as J. Arthur Rank and such actors as Sir Laurence Olivier have made British films important and popular. Other countries are making movies that are both skillful and artistic. Some movies use serious subjects and treat important problems which should have been too advanced ten to twenty years ago.

In this sense, the movies seem to be growing up, appealing more to adult minds, telling us things that only books or plays told us years ago. But many movies are still made to give sheer pleasure and excitement. As we watch them, we forgot our own troubles. We laugh, we cry, we live other people’s lives awhile.
