Did You Google It?

Once confined to laboratories and libraries, research has found its way into every facet of our lives. We call it Googling. Where'd you find that jacket? I Googled it. What kind of seasoning is in this soup? Something I Googled. Think it will rain? No, I Googled it last week. What's the phone number? Let me Google it. Do you know how to get there? Yes, I Googled it. Whatever happened to that guy on my high school badminton team? You should Google him. What's on the tube tonight? Hold on, I'm Googling the news. I'll Google that next. What's the name of Helen's oldest kid? Let's try Googling it. What did the doctor say? He said I should drink plenty of fluids, get some rest, and Google it.

Once a mere search engine trademark, this all-encompassing and popular transitive verb has set a host of other action words on the road to obsolescence: research, collect, check, investigate, ask, discuss, look, see, remember; and all too frequently, think, deduce, judge, and reason. What can we do about this state of affairs? Give me just a second: I'll Google it.
