Two artists accuse Coldplay of plagiarism
Musical artists don’t take kindly to plagiarism, and Coldplay has, once again, been accused of exactly that. The strange part is that the British band is being accused of plagiarism by two different artists — for the same song.
Viva la lawsuit
In December, Joe Satriani filed a lawsuit, saying Coldplay stole the melody for hit single “Viva la Vida” from his song “If I Could Fly.” Satriani recorded the song in 2004, and you can listen to it here through YouTube.
Satriani is seeking “any and all profits” Coldplay made from the song. Considering that “Viva la Vida” went to No. 1 on both the U.S. and U.K. Billboard singles charts, that’s bound to be a pretty substantial sum. Coldplay might end up needing some personal loans, and will definitely need to repair their credit with fans, if Satriani wins the suit.
Cat fight
A new claim from Yusuf Islam, better known as Cat Stevens, has the potential to nullify Satriani’s lawsuit. Islam is now saying the same song, “Viva la Vida” steals from his song, “Foreigner Suite.” Listen to Part I of Cat Stevens’ 18-minute folk-jazz opus. ... click here to read the rest of the article titled "Will Alleged Coldplay Plagiarism Cost British Band a Bundle?"
