Day 106 - I am a librarianWith the way books are priced nowadays, you may think you need a payday loan to fund your hobby. But before you do that, it would be best—not to mention smartest—to explore other options that can set you back just a fraction of your book-buying budget, or even without costing you a thing.

Borrow, borrow, borrow

No, I’m not talking about borrowing a payday loan. I’m talking about borrowing books from your local or school library, or even from your friends' personal collections.

Are you new to reading as a hobby?

Start with the fiction classics—some Wildes or Austens, Hemingways or Kafkas—or go with the popular ones—Patterson, Deaver, Grisham, Dailey, and the like. All libraries will have them on their lists, and your friends will probably have them stocked as well. Fancy non-fiction stuff, like autobiographies and true stories? Check in with someone who has a penchant for history and famous people. How about short stories and novellas? Your high school- or college-aged niece or neighbor must have them on their Literature reading list last term, so it's likely they have them on hand.

There is a lot of reading material to go around, and the more involved readers will always want to share. Why not organize a book swap? You'll definitely find titles you've been looking for, and your friends will find some that you already have.
